General Summary:

The Central Processing Manager oversee daily operations, quality assurance, department and capital budgets, strategic planning, staffing, and all policies and procedures. The Manager maintains a 24-hour responsibility for managing all activities of sterilization and decontamination of surgical instruments as well as ensuring proper department efficiency for all Central Processing Department areas at Metro Health facilities.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree required in Business or related area.   
  • Certification in Central Sterile Technician is required.
  • Three years’ experience in Central Processing Materials Management, or a related area.
  • Effective leadership skills; team-oriented management style; positive communication; experience in process improvement activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates correct departmental processes and procedures to staff. Serves as a technical expert regarding instrument reprocessing, decontamination, and sterilization for any facility within Surgical Services.
  2. Ensures optimal sterile processing performance; through quality control and quality assurance of all Sterile Processing activities and equipment. Monitors and reports equipment operational status. Recommends equipment changes, upgrades and additions to meet manufacturer's instructions for use(IFU) for all items processed.
  3. Develops departmental standards of operation assuring policies are up to date, in compliance with regulatory and professional agencies, including but not limited to CMS, HFAP, AAMI, & AORN.
  4. Develops a/or confirms there is in place a comprehensive departmental orientation for new staff. Routinely coordinates training and competency validation for all. Ensures staff work is performed within prescribed technical and safety standards. Provides or coordinates instructions and in-service on new products, procedures and equipment to identify and prevent resource loss and maintains patient and staff safety. Ensures staff attend technical and mandatory training/education.
  5. Supports staff and collaborates with outside vendors on developing, monitoring and enforcing process for loaner trays and equipment entering and leaving Metro Health Central Processing facilities.
  6. Monitors and adheres to labor and expense budgets. Maintains reports in appropriate cycles for department performance and staff attendance. . Responsible for maintaining fiscally responsible practices and meets budget expectations.
  7. Maintains adequate inventory of equipment to meet Metro Health Central Processing facilities
  8. Provides on going and effective communication with physicians, hospital/clinic department management, staff and vendor representatives. Represents department/Surgical Services by attending appropriate department, and facility meetings.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.  These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
